The Slovenia Insurance Supervision Agency published a recap of the 8th European Supervisor Education Initiative conference, held in Prague on 20 and 21 May 2026 and hosted by the Czech National Bank. Discussions centered on two issues shaping European financial supervision: simplifying regulation without sliding into deregulation, and expanding the use of artificial intelligence in supervisory work under clear safeguards. On regulatory simplification, speakers argued for more proportionate, efficient and less complex EU rules that remove duplicated requirements, administrative burdens and regulatory inconsistencies while preserving financial stability and consumer protection. The debate also linked simplification to the competitiveness of the European financial sector, greater integration of the EU financial market and completion of the banking union. On AI, participants examined supervisory uses such as data analysis, early risk detection, automated reviews and decision support, while stressing the need for risk management, transparency and trust. The conference also highlighted the EU debate on implementing the EU AI Act and the need to avoid overlapping obligations across European rules through a more coordinated approach.
