Portugal's Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF) issued a draft regulatory standard setting the indices used to automatically update the insured value of property, or the insured proportion of it, in home-related insurance policies starting or renewing in the third quarter of 2026, unless the policy provides otherwise. For Q3 2026, the Buildings Index (IE) is 585.27, the Household Contents Index (IRH) is 377.11, and the combined Household Contents and Buildings Index (IRHE) is 502.01 (base 100 in the first quarter of 1987). The annex reports quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year changes of 0.25% and 4.26% for IE, 4.93% and 10.81% for IRH, and 1.62% and 6.14% for IRHE. ASF also reiterates that policyholders remain responsible for ensuring sums insured are appropriate, including where regional variations from national indices or changes to the insured assets apply. The draft notes that it has been subject to a public consultation process under ASF’s statutes.
