Central Bank of the UAE Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama led the UAE delegation to the 87th Gulf Cooperation Council Central Bank Governors’ Committee meeting in Bahrain, where officials reviewed regional monetary and financial developments and joint central banking initiatives. The discussions continued recent GCC work on linking national payment systems and strengthening coordination across the monetary and banking sectors. The governors reviewed recommendations on payment systems, banking supervision and regulation, and anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing, as well as developments in the agreement to link GCC payment systems. They also discussed international cooperation, including a joint meeting with the People’s Bank of China. Separately, Balama chaired the Gulf Payments Company’s 23rd board meeting, which reviewed the company’s activities, the AFAQ Gulf Payments System and committee work.
