The South African Reserve Bank’s Corporation for Deposit Insurance has published updated versions of the single customer view Data Handbook and the Coverage and Reporting Rules document, refreshing the guidance banks must use for deposit insurance reporting. Together, the documents set out how banks should compile single customer view calculations, submit monthly and quarterly data to CODI, and apply deposit insurance coverage and reporting requirements. The July 2026 handbook update revises guidance on the treatment of pledged accounts and deceased depositors, increases the permitted email address field length to 100 characters, updates the list of province values, and strengthens business rules for identification type of institution, joint account share balance in ZAR and covered balance. The handbook also restates the reporting framework under which banks submit monthly totals for qualifying and covered deposits, quarterly underlying single customer view calculations, and ad hoc or resolution data, using file upload, API or SFTP channels, with 48-hour turnaround requirements for ad hoc requests and banks in resolution. Banks are encouraged to review the revised documents and align their internal processes and reporting practices with CODI’s coverage and reporting requirements.
