The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and GIABA hosted their annual Joint Experts Meeting in Accra, Ghana, bringing together more than 270 experts from over 40 countries to share insights on money laundering and terrorist financing risks and responses. Discussion topics included fraud, terrorist financing and trade-based financial crimes, alongside engagement with 73 private-sector participants to strengthen public-private partnerships and the risk-based approach. Representatives from the FATF Secretariat and co-chairs from FATF working groups attended and moderated sessions, and Nigeria and Senegal contributed regional perspectives under the FATF guest jurisdiction initiative. Insights from the meeting are expected to inform FATF’s ongoing work for further discussion at the February 2026 Plenary and GIABA’s project on trade-based financial crimes due in November 2026.
