At an event on insurance fraud organized by the Association of Argentine Insurers and the Public Ministry of Buenos Aires Province, the Argentina Superintendency of Insurance presented initiatives aimed at preventing fraudulent insurance claims and improving access to supervisory information. Superintendent Guillermo Plate framed fraud as a solvency issue for insurers that raises system costs, affects premium levels and, in turn, undermines policyholder protection. The authority said it is working to make more strategic use of the information it already holds to build tools that insurance companies can use to detect and prevent fraud, while preserving confidentiality safeguards. Plate also announced the forthcoming signing of an agreement with the Federal Board of Courts and Superior Tribunals of Justice of the Argentine Provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, which would allow courts to obtain digital, direct access to information administered by the supervisor and speed up judicial requests related to insurance activity. The next stated step is the signing of that agreement with the courts body.
