The Bermuda Ministry of Home Affairs announced the establishment of the inaugural Junior Cost of Living Commission, which brings young Bermudians into the development of the government’s affordability strategy. Formed through the Ministry’s summer student program, the group is developing practical recommendations for submission to the statutory Cost-of-Living Commission, including measures not fully explored in the Affordable Bermuda Agenda. The Junior Commission began meeting weekly in July and considered affordability challenges across education, employment and independent living. Members also drew on their experiences overseas to assess whether initiatives used in other jurisdictions could be adapted to Bermuda.
