The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission, working with the Thai General Insurance Association and the Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce, launched a pilot project branded “Restaurants with peace of mind, protected by insurance” in Khon Kaen, including issuing a project mark to participating restaurants that manage risk through insurance. The pilot is positioned as a model for “embedded insurance” in the restaurant sector, where restaurant operators take out insurance to protect customers without additional charges. A business-matching element connected local operators with insurers including Bangkok Insurance, Dhipaya Insurance and Viriyah Insurance, and 30 restaurants joined with third-party public liability coverage across formats such as general restaurants, cafés, wine bars, franchise outlets and fine dining; the combined customer base of these venues is stated as exceeding 1 million people per year. The Office indicated it plans to expand the project to other areas nationwide, naming Chiang Mai, Phuket, Chonburi and Bangkok as potential next locations.
