The National Bank of Moldova published monetary statistics for December 2024, showing month-on-month increases in the monetary base and all main monetary aggregates, alongside higher deposits and banking system claims on the economy. The monetary base increased by MDL 1,465.5 million (1.8%) from November to MDL 82,623.7 million and was 0.3% higher than a year earlier. Cash in circulation (M0) rose by MDL 777.3 million (1.8%) to MDL 44,107.7 million, while M1, M2 and M3 grew to MDL 94,070.7 million (up 3.0%), MDL 126,115.7 million (up 2.9%) and MDL 169,601.5 million (up 2.8%), respectively; year on year, M0 was up 14.4%, M1 17.5%, M2 14.6% and M3 13.7%. Deposits in national currency increased by MDL 2,800.0 million to MDL 82,008.1 million (65.3% of total deposits), and foreign-currency deposits (MDL equivalent) rose by MDL 1,025.6 million to MDL 43,485.7 million (34.7%). Claims on the economy reached MDL 82,671.0 million, up MDL 2,816.5 million (3.5%), including foreign-currency claims of USD 1,109.3 million, up USD 33.8 million (3.1%).
