The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency published a recap of its annual student debate, organised as part of its ongoing cooperation with the Croatian National Bank and universities, focused this year on “Finance in the era of Instagram and TikTok: knowledge or hype?”. Students concluded that social media can be a useful first touchpoint for young people to engage with financial concepts, but that information needs to be assessed critically. The debate was hosted at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management with students from Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia and the Zagreb School of Economics and Management, within a Public Finance course led by Dina Dogan. Preparation support was provided by Anja Tkalčević from Hanfa’s Consumer Protection Monitoring and Education Department and Josip Pintarić from the Croatian National Bank’s Consumer Protection Regulation and Financial Literacy Department, with students also emphasising the responsibility of content creators and users to verify accuracy and conduct further research.
