The National Bank of Moldova reported that Governor Anca Dragu met with Maria Luís Albuquerque, European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union, to discuss cooperation between Moldova and EU institutions on financial services, financial-sector stability and Moldova’s integration into the EU financial market. The talks covered assessing the equivalence of Moldova’s banking prudential framework with EU standards using the European Banking Authority methodology, and progress on the central bank’s operational connection to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The meeting took place in the context of Moldova’s EU accession process, in which the National Bank of Moldova has an active role and leads workstreams on the free movement of capital, financial services, and economic and monetary policy. SEPA connectivity is expected to become operational starting next week, enabling citizens and companies to make EUR transfers that are faster, more secure and more affordable.
