The National Bank of Moldova released preliminary fourth-quarter 2024 international accounts for the Republic of Moldova, reporting a USD 884.27 million current account deficit, a USD 28.27 million capital account surplus and net financial account inflows of USD 988.97 million. End-2024 stock data put the net international investment position at -USD 5,588.30 million and gross external debt at USD 10,213.33 million. The current account deficit widened by 92.5% versus the same quarter of 2023 to 18.1% of GDP, reflecting a larger goods trade deficit alongside smaller surpluses in primary income, secondary income and services trade. The capital account surplus increased by 60.4% year on year, supported by higher net transfers in the private sector and higher net capital inflows for public administration. Financial account inflows reflected a USD 486.56 million decline in residents’ external financial assets and a USD 502.41 million increase in liabilities to non-residents. External assets rose 5.9% from end-2023 to USD 8,226.92 million, while external liabilities increased 0.6% to USD 13,815.22 million; gross external debt stood at 56.1% of GDP, with public external debt at USD 4,310.26 million and private external debt at USD 5,903.07 million. The bank flagged the figures as provisional and published supporting analytical materials, a key-indicators dashboard, Statistical Bulletin No. 1 for 2025, and updated MBP6 series in its interactive database.
