Argentina’s Superintendency of Insurance has issued Resolution 136/2026 amending the general, standard and compulsory contractual terms for motor vehicle and/or towed vehicle insurance under the General Regulation of Insurance Activity. The changes incorporate updated requirements from the National Directorate of National Registries of Motor Vehicle Property and Pledge Credits to streamline claims settlement and align policy documentation with current rules. The updated policy wording clarifies and separates the documentation insureds must provide depending on the type of loss, reflecting the coexistence of digital and paper titles and the different forms applicable in each case. For total loss due to damage or fire, the process focuses on proving vehicle deregistration, requiring the relevant form and the deregistration and dismantling certificate in physical or digital format, plus delivery of the keys if the insured still has them. For total theft or robbery, the resolution specifies documents to evidence both the event and the vehicle’s registry status, including the police report, proof that the theft has been recorded with the Registry, the registry title status and proof of ownership; it also maintains requirements for debt-free certificates and assignment of rights in favour of the insurer, and requests delivery of the keys if retained.
