The Bank of Spain published its 2025 Central Credit Register annual report, showing declared financing and other credit risks rose 6.2% to EUR 3.78 trillion. The register covered more than 63.7 million operations, up 2.9%, with loans accounting for 97% of the total. Credit exposure involving individuals and nonfinancial companies approached EUR 1.6 trillion. The register issued nearly 1.5 million risk reports to individuals and legal entities, a record and a 52% annual increase, partly reflecting their use in debt renegotiations and insolvency proceedings. It also supplied 463 million reports to 534 lenders and real estate credit intermediaries. The Bank of Spain closed 48,086 complaints, more than twice the previous year’s total, while rectification requests rose 30% to more than 42,000, many linked to debt relief under the Second Chance Law. Housing finance reached almost EUR 508 billion, up 4.3%, with 438,182 new mortgages originated during 2025, the highest number since 2018. Financing to small and medium-sized enterprises was broadly stable at EUR 300 billion, while direct credit exposure to self-employed workers increased 7.1% to more than EUR 158 billion.
