The Albania Financial Services Authority held a roundtable discussion focused on aligning Albania’s legal and regulatory framework with the European Union’s market infrastructure regulation (EMIR) and on drafting a comprehensive strategy for developing a derivatives market in Albania. Participants included representatives from the Authority and the Bank of Albania, alongside market participants and domestic and international experts, who shared views and recommendations on development needs and prospects. Executive General Director Mimoza Kaçi, in her role as Chief Negotiator for Chapter 9 “Financial services”, noted that a derivatives market is currently absent in Albania and framed derivatives as a key component for risk management, hedging interest rate fluctuations, and supporting overall financial stability in the context of EU integration and alignment with EU standards.
