The Inter Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa has published Benin’s fourth enhanced follow-up report under the mutual evaluation process, assessing the country’s progress in meeting technical compliance requirements for 10 anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing recommendations. The report sits within the enhanced monitoring regime applied after Benin’s Mutual Evaluation Report, adopted in May 2021, identified 11 weak results for effectiveness and more than eight recommendations rated non-compliant or partially compliant. The latest report reviews Recommendations 4, 5, 10, 12, 19, 20, 22, 23, 26 and 32 under reassessment. Under GIABA procedures, a technical compliance reassessment is granted when sufficient progress has been made. Earlier follow-up rounds upgraded Recommendations 6 and 7 from partially compliant to largely compliant in May 2023, and Recommendation 34 from partially compliant to largely compliant in May 2024.
