The National Bank of Moldova published an update on the liquidation of Banca de Economii S.A., BC “BANCA SOCIALĂ” S.A. and B.C. “UNIBANK” S.A., covering asset realisation and servicing of the emergency loans extended ahead of the banks’ licence withdrawals on 16 October 2015. Between 16 October 2015 and 31 December 2025, the three estates collected MDL 3,066,078.6 thousand, including MDL 3,805.9 thousand in the fourth quarter of 2025. Recoveries to date include MDL 1,191,970.0 thousand from loan repayments and sales of repossessed collateral and MDL 443,405.3 thousand from sales of assets owned by the banks, alongside MDL 1,430,525.8 thousand reported as other receipts. The emergency lending provided between November 2014 and October 2015 totalled MDL 14,121,758.0 thousand; cumulative repayments amount to MDL 2,920,958.0 thousand (excluding interest), leaving MDL 11,200,800.0 thousand outstanding at 31 December 2025. Recovery activity reported as at that date included 31 court claims valued at MDL 3,839,564.0 thousand, 101 debtors in insolvency (MDL 1,789,915.8 thousand), and 351 enforcement titles under execution (MDL 6,975,576.5 thousand), as well as 64 criminal cases recorded by the banks (aggregate value MDL 59,318,740.9 thousand, with a caveat that cases may overlap). Liquidators continue to work with investigative and judicial authorities and to pursue debtors, with proceeds used for liquidation costs and to meet claims related to the emergency loans, including repayments to the Ministry of Finance after it substituted the National Bank of Moldova as creditor in October 2016. Asset sales continue via auctions, with two auctions held in the fourth quarter of 2025 resulting in three assets sold for a total award price of MDL 20,061.3 thousand.
