The European Commission announced that Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and ALEXBANK have signed a EUR 21 million portfolio guarantee under the EU-supported Transforming and Empowering Resilient and Responsible Agribusiness Programme. The guarantee will cover a EUR 30 million lending portfolio for microenterprises in Egypt’s agrifood sector, mainly small farmers, to improve access to finance and strengthen the resilience of local agrifood value chains. The transaction uses European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus resources and combines EU budgetary support with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti’s financing capacity and ALEXBANK’s local lending network. It forms part of the investment cooperation between the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, and supports the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership.
