The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority published an updated sanctions notice after the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research amended the lists of sanctioned persons, companies and organizations under Switzerland’s measures concerning Iran. The changes to annexes 12, 13 and 14 of the ordinance take effect at 11 p.m. on August 18, 2026, and have been incorporated into the SECO Sanctions Management database. Financial intermediaries must implement the applicable prohibitions, freeze assets belonging to sanctioned parties and report affected business relationships to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. Reporting to the authority does not remove their anti-money laundering duties to conduct additional checks where suspicions arise and, if those suspicions cannot be resolved, promptly report the matter to the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland.
