The Uganda Capital Markets Authority, in partnership with the Uganda Securities Exchange, hosted the East Africa Capital Markets Conference 2025 in Kampala under the theme of digital transformation and sustainable finance, bringing together regional policymakers, regulators, exchanges, fund managers, issuers and investors. Alongside the East African Securities Exchanges Association, the event also marked the launch of the East African Exchanges 20 Share Index to support regional market visibility and integration. Conference discussions focused on regional integration, technology-enabled market access, and ESG and sustainability reporting. The Capital Markets Authority highlighted its recently launched regulatory sandbox for testing new products under adaptive regulation, and pointed to results from the Deal Flow Facility with FSD Uganda and the European Union, which has matched 52 companies with investors for potential deals exceeding USD 30 million, with four companies closing USD 6.1 million. The Uganda Securities Exchange outlined initiatives including the USE Easy portal and digital account opening through MTN and Airtel, while Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development linked capital markets development to national growth priorities and the fourth National Development Plan.
