The National Bank of Serbia has reminded consumers and businesses that banks’ mobile banking applications offer instant payments through four services and published first quarter 2026 usage data showing further growth. More than 10 million payments were made by scanning an NBS IPS QR code on invoices, with a total value above RSD 53 billion, up 9% from the previous quarter. Peer-to-peer transfers through Prenesi exceeded 400,000 transactions worth more than RSD 3.8 billion, up 5%, while merchant payments through IPS pokaži and IPS skeniraj exceeded 1.8 million transactions worth more than RSD 7.5 billion, up 60%. The services cover invoice payments by scanning a QR code, person-to-person transfers using only the recipient’s phone number, and merchant payments at physical and online points of sale. Invoice issuers can generate and validate NBS IPS QR codes through the IPS website, and merchants can enable instant payment acceptance by partnering with an acquiring bank that offers the service. For online purchases, IPS skeniraj allows users to scan a merchant QR code or select a Pay button from a mobile phone, with the transaction completed within the bank’s secure environment rather than by entering sensitive payment instrument data on the merchant’s website.
