The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan published its August securities market update, reporting growth in equity valuations and trading activity alongside contrasting trends in government and corporate debt. At Sept. 1, equity market capitalization stood at KZT 50.2 trillion, up 5.3% in August and 28.8% since the start of 2026, driven mainly by gains in Kaspi.kz and Kazatomprom shares. The KASE Index rose 4% during the month to 8,121.46 points, while equity turnover increased 22.6% to KZT 24.3 billion. Corporate debt on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange declined 0.6% to KZT 16.7 trillion, while corporate bond turnover fell 76% to KZT 312.4 billion because of lower primary market activity. Government debt increased 0.8% to KZT 36.7 trillion, and government securities turnover rose 16.4% to KZT 1.2 trillion. The Ministry of Finance raised KZT 780.3 billion through 10 bond issues with yields of 14% to 18.3%, while regional authorities and the city of Shymkent raised KZT 114.7 billion for state programs. Investment fund assets fell 3.7% to KZT 302.5 billion, mainly because of negative securities portfolio revaluations. Central Securities Depository accounts increased 1.8% to 5.85 million, led by growth in individual accounts recorded through omnibus accounts. Brokers, dealers and investment portfolio managers reported a 1.8% increase in aggregate assets to KZT 657.3 billion and a 2.6% rise in equity to KZT 483 billion.
