The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert following a Bank of East Asia press release on a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that were reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Individuals who have provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen were advised to contact the bank using the contact details in the bank’s press release and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
