The National Bank of Georgia said at a sustainability reporting event organized by the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Auditing Supervision that it sees sustainability reporting as an important element of banking sector and capital market development, and that assurance services should develop alongside reporting practices in Georgia. In remarks at the event, First Vice President Ekaterine Mikabadze linked sustainability reporting to corporate governance, risk management and more informed investment decisions. The update restated the central bank’s main sustainable finance initiatives, including ESG guidelines for commercial banks, an ESG reporting and disclosure framework, and work on a regulatory framework for green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds. Mikabadze said the quality and reliability of sustainability information are critical for sustainable finance development, and that assurance services can strengthen investor confidence and reduce greenwashing risk.
