The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has warned that fraudsters are exploiting children’s increased internet use during summer holidays to obtain family members’ personal data and funds. Schemes conducted through mobile games, social media, messaging services and video platforms commonly use fake prizes, impersonation, malicious applications and fraudulent websites to gain access to banking details, accounts or devices. The risk is greater when a child’s smartphone is linked to a parent’s banking applications or payment services, as malicious software may expose financial information and funds. The agency advised parents to discuss online safety, restrict the sharing of personal data, passwords and verification codes, install applications only from official stores, maintain security software, use parental controls and review applications’ access to location, contacts, photographs and other device data.
