The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert directing the public to bank-issued warnings on fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams reported to the HKMA, with hyperlinks to the relevant notices available on the HKMA website. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Limited, Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited, Chong Hing Bank Limited and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, each relating to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS; affected individuals are advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
