The National Bank of Romania, working with the National Institute of Statistics, published its annual foreign direct investment survey for 2025. Net inward foreign direct investment totaled EUR 7.907 billion, while Romania’s inward investment stock reached EUR 134.823 billion as of Dec. 31, 2025. Nonresident investors earned EUR 11.493 billion from these investments during the year. The net inward flow comprised EUR 6.256 billion in equity, including EUR 3.009 billion in reinvested earnings, and EUR 1.651 billion in debt instruments. Equity and reinvested earnings accounted for EUR 98.160 billion, or 72.8%, of the year-end stock, with debt instruments making up the remaining EUR 36.663 billion. Nonresident income consisted of EUR 10.317 billion from equity holdings and EUR 1.176 billion in net interest. Romanian residents recorded EUR 1.522 billion in net direct investment abroad during 2025. The corresponding year-end stock was EUR 9.679 billion, comprising EUR 8.286 billion in equity and EUR 1.393 billion in debt instruments. The statistics follow the International Monetary Fund’s sixth-edition Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s fourth-edition Benchmark Definition of Foreign Direct Investment.
