The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification launched the initiative for the Drought Resilience Investment Facility during COP17 in Mongolia, establishing a political commitment to its future structuring and implementation. The facility is intended to mobilize public and private capital for sustainable agriculture, water security, land restoration and nature based solutions. Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade provided USD 2 million in seed funding for the facility’s design and establishment. The Ministry of Finance will contribute EUR 5 million as an anchor investment, using public capital to attract private investment and develop projects that markets would not finance on their own.
