An Australian Securities and Investments Commission investigation has led to the conviction and sentencing of Kristian John Convery for acting as a self-managed superannuation fund auditor while permanently disqualified and dishonestly falsifying documents for gain. The Melbourne Magistrates Court imposed a Community Corrections Order requiring 60 hours of unpaid community work after Convery pleaded guilty to three charges. Convery continued providing audit services to four tax agents between June 2024 and January 2025 despite his disqualification taking effect on May 15, 2024. He created 47 false audit reports and a related letter, using another registered auditor’s name without that auditor’s participation or authorization, and invoiced the tax agents for the work. The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions prosecuted the case.
