The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network convened global financial institutions under Operation Economic Outcast to share information aimed at shutting down revenue streams and procurement networks linked to the Iranian government and its proxies. The public-private exchange focused on protecting the US financial system from illicit finance and terrorism. Participants examined the nodes, facilitators and networks that provide access to US correspondent banking relationships, enable money laundering and weapons procurement, and finance regional terrorist activity. FinCEN encouraged financial institutions to review relevant alerts, advisories, financial trend analyses and Iran-related sanctions. The meeting builds on an April 2025 exchange that addressed Iran’s oil trade, shadow banking networks and sanctions evasion methods.
