The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) convened a high-level meeting in San Salvador with the President of El Salvador and national authorities involved in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT), in the context of GAFILAT’s 51st Plenary of Representatives. Discussions focused on regional AML/CFT policy priorities and practical strategies to disrupt transnational organised crime and improve the timely detection of illicit financial flows. Participants from El Salvador included the Attorney General, the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, and members of the inter-institutional committee responsible for preventing money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing, alongside the President of the Supreme Court, relevant ministers and the Superintendent of the Financial System. GAFILAT was represented by its President, Vice President, Executive Secretary, Deputy Executive Secretaries and national coordinators from several member countries, and El Salvador’s President reiterated the country’s commitment to strengthening its AML/CFT system and international cooperation against money laundering, terrorist financing and other financial crimes.
