Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission, together with the Road Accident Victims Compensation Fund, has launched a 2026 road safety and compulsory motor insurance campaign targeting students at five colleges in high-risk areas. The initiative responds to survey data showing that about 32% of motorcycles used by young people lack compulsory insurance, while those aged 15 to 19 are among the groups at high risk of motorcycle accidents. The campaign began at Saraburi Technical College with an interactive event attended by more than 100 students and will expand to four colleges in Prachin Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima and Chachoengsao. It explains that compulsory motor insurance provides up to THB 30,000 in initial medical expenses without waiting for fault to be determined and up to THB 500,000 where the insured party is not at fault, while motorcycle premiums start at less than THB 1 a day. The commission will monitor insurance awareness, access to benefits and the proportion of students’ motorcycles entering the compulsory insurance system.
