The Central Bank of Russia reported that banks blocked 17.5 million attempts to steal customer funds totaling nearly RUB 1.9 trillion in the second quarter of 2026. Both the number and value of prevented fraudulent transactions increased by more than 4% from the first quarter, while completed fraudulent transactions fell 7.5% to 458,700 and customer losses edged down to less than RUB 7.4 billion. Legal entities faced continued pressure, with their share of total stolen funds rising to 11.3% from 7.8% in the previous quarter. Banks reimbursed RUB 514.6 million, equal to 7% of affected customers’ losses. The central bank also initiated the blocking of 4,600 fraudulent websites and social media pages and reported 7,800 fraud-linked telephone numbers to communications providers.
