The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Insurance Commissioner, Dr Baghayo Saqware, opened the sixth annual meeting of the Tanzania Association of Insurance Agents in Dar es Salaam and called on agents to deepen insurance market development by expanding their presence, particularly in underserved parts of the country. He also outlined TIRA’s ongoing focus on consumer protection, increasing insurance uptake in the informal sector, and strengthening agent training and certification. In his remarks, Saqware credited insurance agents with a significant contribution to market growth and described insurance as a pillar of social and economic welfare that protects against financial shocks, supports investment, and provides employment. He urged agents to use their insurance education to act as ambassadors for insurance, while raising standards of integrity, committing to continuous learning in response to technological change and evolving customer needs, and using the annual forum to share experience and propose improvements for the sector.
