The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America, in coordination with the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Costa Rican Institute on Drugs, conducted a course in San José from July 28 to 31, 2026, on countering the financing of weapons of mass destruction proliferation and implementing targeted financial sanctions. Participants included Costa Rican institutions responsible for the anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and counter-proliferation financing framework, as well as private-sector representatives. The training covered the international proliferation financing framework, targeted financial sanctions, risk assessment and mitigation, interagency cooperation and implementation challenges. It combined technical presentations, case analysis and practical exercises and was delivered with support provided by Spain to GAFILAT.
