The Central Bank of Costa Rica published its December 2025 Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE), reporting a 4.8% year-on-year increase in the trend-cycle series and an acceleration of 0.2 percentage points versus the same month a year earlier. The average increase in economic activity during 2025 was 4.6% compared with 2024, with growth remaining in a 4.0% to 5.0% range since November 2023. By regime, output in the definitive regime grew 3.0% year on year and accounted for 54.4% of the IMAE increase, with professional and administrative services, construction, transport and storage, education, health, and commerce explaining around 60% of the definitive-regime expansion. Production in special regimes increased 12.8% and contributed 45.6% to overall growth, led by medical devices manufacturing despite a 6.9 percentage point slowdown from December 2024; IT services, financial consulting, and head-office support services in special regimes grew by more than 5.0%.
