The Brazilian Pension Funds Authority (PREVIC) took part in the opening of the 12th National Financial Education Week (Semana ENEF), a nationwide programme of free events running from 12 to 18 May to promote financial, pension, insurance and tax education under Brazil’s National Strategy for Financial Education. At the opening event in Brasília, PREVIC standards director Alcinei Rodrigues highlighted the challenge of explaining long-term pension saving to an “immediate” society and argued that retirement planning should start when people are young. He also stressed that building pension and financial education requires engagement from workers as well as plan sponsors and institutors, noting that the sector pays BRL 100 billion a year in benefits and depends on sustained saving and trust in institutions and markets. Activities continue across Brazil through 18 May.
