The Central Bank of Luxembourg published provisional April 2026 statistics showing that the aggregate balance sheet of credit institutions rose to EUR 1,036,875 million at 30 April from EUR 1,026,979 million at 31 March, an increase of 0.96%. The monthly rise was driven mainly by higher claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions on the asset side and by higher liabilities to banks and deposit-taking institutions on the liability side. On a year-on-year basis, the aggregate balance sheet increased by 5.34%. The interbank balance, defined as the difference between interbank claims and liabilities, fell by EUR 9,061 million, or 3.84%, to EUR 227,016 million at end-April. Credit to non-bank customers decreased by EUR 231 million, or 0.19%, between March and April, but was up EUR 6,504 million, or 5.66%, over 12 months. Over the year to April, lending to other financial intermediaries increased by EUR 4,758 million, or 10.84%, housing loans to households rose by EUR 1,198 million, or 2.87%, and lending to non-financial corporations increased by EUR 318 million, or 1.43%. On the funding side, resident non-bank sector deposits rose by EUR 3,131 million, or 0.95%, month on month and by EUR 20,513 million, or 6.58%, year on year. Deposits from other financial intermediaries, which represented 67.2% of the total at 30 April, increased by EUR 12,304 million, or 5.84%, while household deposits rose by EUR 2,858 million, or 5.94%, non-financial corporation deposits by EUR 1,640 million, or 6.14%, and deposits from other sectors by EUR 3,711 million, or 14.32%.

The Central Bank of Luxembourg published provisional April 2026 statistics showing the aggregate balance sheet of credit institutions rose 0.96% month on month and 5.34% year on year to EUR 1,036,875 million, driven mainly by higher interbank claims and liabilities. Credit to non-bank customers fell slightly on the month but increased 5.66% over 12 months. Resident non-bank sector deposits rose 0.95% month on month and 6.58% year on year, with deposits from other financial intermediaries accounting for 67.2% of the total and recording the strongest growth in absolute terms.
