The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has launched a refreshed Small Business Strategy focused on practical education, simpler regulatory interactions, stakeholder engagement and targeted enforcement. The framework is intended to help small businesses and directors understand and meet their obligations while addressing misconduct that harms small businesses, creditors and consumers. The strategy includes new resources covering directors’ obligations throughout a company’s life cycle, including when responding to financial difficulty. ASIC will also improve the clarity, usability and accessibility of its registers, portals and digital services, informed by engagement with small business stakeholders and government agencies. Enforcement will target illegal phoenix activity and other harmful practices by companies and directors.
