The Central Bank of Eswatini has received the 2025 Global Banking & Markets Africa Award for High Yield Debt Deal of the Year for listing the Government of Eswatini’s ZAR 4 billion bond on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The award recognises innovative and ground-breaking deals from sovereign, corporate and financial institution issuers and borrowers. The award was accepted on behalf of the Bank by Director of Financial Markets Dr. Melvin Khomo at a ceremony in Cape Town on 26 March 2025. The Bank described the transaction as its maiden bond issuance in international markets, and noted that the bond was listed in 2024 under the JSE’s ‘Protea Bond’ segment for South African-denominated bond issuances by foreign governments, with the first ZAR 400 million bond already issued under the programme.
