Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds (SBS) ordered the dissolution of Caja Rural de Ahorro y Crédito del Centro S.A. (CRAC del Centro) and the start of its liquidation process, following its intervention, to safeguard the value of its assets and enable the institution to meet obligations to depositors and other creditors. The measure is set out in SBS Resolution No. 01123-2026, scheduled for publication in the Official Gazette on 16 April 2026. The intervention was linked to a significant deterioration in solvency driven by continued losses, deficiencies in credit management for businesses the institution entered, and insufficient shareholder capital support. The SBS also noted that, although the institution was acquired in August 2024 by 12 individuals, it determined the ultimate beneficial owner of the 100% stake to be Grupo Kuria, which breached the requirement for prior SBS authorization under Law No. 26702; against this backdrop, the institution did not comply with repeated SBS requests for capital contributions. CRAC del Centro’s effective equity fell to PEN 7,049 thousand, a 57.26% decline over the last 12 months. Depositors that are individuals and non-profit legal entities remain covered by the Deposit Insurance Fund up to a maximum of PEN 117,200. From 20 April 2026, the list of covered depositors eligible to withdraw their deposits can be consulted on the SBS website and CRAC del Centro’s liquidation website.
