The Bulgarian National Bank reported that its Governor, Dimitar Radev, held a working meeting with European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis focused on Bulgaria’s path to joining the euro area. The discussion centred on European Commission and European Central Bank reports confirming that Bulgaria meets the criteria for euro area membership from 1 January 2026. The meeting also covered the next steps and the need for an information campaign to support the transition from the lev to the euro. Earlier the same day, Dombrovskis also took part in a meeting with European Union ambassadors, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and members of the diplomatic corps, hosted by Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Governor Radev in their roles as co-chairs of the Coordination Council for the introduction of the euro.
