At AVIRA’s International Life and Retirement Insurance Seminar, Argentina’s Superintendent of Insurance Guillermo Plate called on insurers to build the technical, financial and reinsurance capacity needed to support investment in energy, mining, agribusiness and the knowledge economy. He described insurance as an “invisible infrastructure of growth” that enables businesses to identify, prevent, manage and transfer the risks associated with new projects. Plate said the changing structure of Argentina’s economy will produce larger, more diverse and complex exposures, spanning construction, environmental and business interruption risks as well as growing demand for life, retirement, cyber, data protection and professional liability coverage. Insurers should therefore invest in capital and solvency, specialist underwriting, risk engineering, technology, skilled professionals and reinsurance capacity, reinforcing the regulator’s recent emphasis on stronger capital and risk based oversight.
