The Central Bank of Liberia has launched an enhanced digital collateral registry covering movable and immovable property to strengthen secured lending and expand access to finance. The platform interoperates with the Liberia Land Authority and National Identification Registry, giving lenders and borrowers greater transparency over registered collateral. Financial institutions have been urged to adopt the enhanced framework. The system is intended to improve confidence in lending, support enforcement of judgments and help reduce nonperforming loans, while addressing credit barriers faced by micro, small and medium enterprises, women and young people. It builds on the original collateral registry established in 2014 and complements modernization of Liberia’s Credit Reference System under the LIFT Project, which has deployed USD 6 million in loans to 358 enterprises across nine counties, 64% of them women-owned.
