The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public alert after being notified of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to Chong Hing Bank Limited, directing readers to the bank’s corresponding press release. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent sites or screens were advised to contact the bank and report the matter to the Police.
