The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following reports of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens associated with Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who have provided personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent websites or login screens are advised to contact the bank using the details in Shanghai Commercial Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
