The Bank of Cape Verde announced that its CVE 2,000 banknote, issued in 2024 and dedicated to singer Cesária Évora, has been nominated for the international Best African Circulating Banknote 2026 competition run by IBNS Mosaic. The annual initiative recognizes banknotes in circulation across Africa. The bank said the nomination reflects the technical and artistic features of the issue, including its security, innovation and design, and highlighted the note's cultural focus on Cesária Évora. It also linked the nomination to earlier international recognition for the denomination, noting that the 2014 issue of the same banknote, also dedicated to Cesária Évora, received an International Association of Currency Affairs award in the Best New Banknote or Banknote Series category. Voting is scheduled to begin on June 15.
