The bank said the nomination reflects the technical and artistic features of the issue, including its security, innovation and design, and highlighted the note's cultural focus on Cesária Évora. It also linked the nomination to earlier international recognition for the denomination, noting that the 2014 issue of the same banknote, also dedicated to Cesária Évora, received an International Association of Currency Affairs award in the Best New Banknote or Banknote Series category. Voting is scheduled to begin on June 15.
