The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) held a training course in Quito, Ecuador on sanctions regimes for non-compliance with anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and proliferation financing (AML/CFT/PF) obligations, focusing on aligning sanctions with the characteristics required by the international standard. Delivered by an expert from Spain’s Treasury and a representative of GAFILAT’s Executive Secretariat, the programme combined theoretical modules on international standards with practical activities and case studies. The training also covered application of sanctions regimes under Spanish and Ecuadorian legal frameworks and examined applicability across sectors, with nearly 50 participants from eight supervisory and regulatory authorities. The course ran from 17 to 20 November 2025 and was supported and organised with Ecuador’s Financial and Economic Analysis Unit.
