The Central Bank of Luxembourg published provisional balance sheet statistics for Luxembourg credit institutions showing a total balance sheet of EUR 981,560 million at 31 December 2025, down 2.72% from EUR 1,008,993 million at 30 November 2025 and up 2.49% year on year. On the asset side, the month-on-month decline was mainly driven by lower claims on banks and deposit-taking institutions. On the liability side, reduced deposits from the banking sector and other sectors contributed to the fall. The interbank balance decreased by EUR 5,385 million (2.44%) to EUR 215,100 million at end-December 2025, while loans to non-bank customers fell by EUR 1,236 million (1.03%) over the month but rose by EUR 6,154 million (5.47%) over 12 months. Over the year to December 2025, lending to non-financial corporations (SNF) declined by EUR 613 million (2.60%), household mortgage lending increased by EUR 1,274 million (3.07%), and lending to other financial intermediaries (AIF) rose by EUR 5,439 million (13.44%). On funding, resident non-bank deposits fell by EUR 8,250 million (2.65%) between November and December but increased by EUR 13,741 million (4.76%) over 12 months, with AIF deposits up EUR 12,490 million (6.54%) and representing 67.3% of deposits at 31 December 2025; household deposits rose EUR 2,242 million (4.72%), SNF deposits fell EUR 1,310 million (5.2%), and other sectors’ deposits increased EUR 319 million (1.28%).
