The HKMA reiterated that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. It advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent site or screen to contact the bank using details in Shanghai Commercial Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police via the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
